One of the main inspirations for this render was the Game Cover of "Sonic Gems Collection".
I have fond memories of playing through the collection and still think the cover is amazing.
HEAD RENDER
Originally wanted to make a second variant with the iconic nike-styled grin that's shown in the 2D artwork for the series.
Wasn't happy with my attempts, so I scrapped it unfortunately.
REFERENCE & FINAL RENDER
Sometimes I had to dial back on some aspects of the original
piece, when translating them in 3D.
E.g. - in the reference, Sonic's pupils are slightly big; When trying
to translate it accurately in 3D, it didn't look right.

RENDER WIREFRAME
I wish the muzzle didn't have as many vertices as it has now. Part of the reason I went with that decision was to retain the shape as accurate as possible to the original sculpt during retopology.
Probably a bit excessive.
MODEL
Having the pupils modelled, as well as making a smirk texture, helped me a lot during the modelling process.
I tend to do this with Sonic character models I make, as it gives me a clear idea of what I need to do to improve the model.
SHOE MODEL
I remember having to re-model the shoes a couple of times, especially the socks.
Even now, I'm still not satisfied with how the socks turned out in the end lol.
MODEL REFERENCES
Always liked how Sonic was drawn in artwork published between 2004-2011, which is why I decided to base the model on the artwork from that time period.
